Smileys and Emoticons are tireless little chaps that bring happiness to your emails

The “smiley face” - emoticons yellow button with smile and two dots for eyes, was first created by a chap called Harvey Bell. He was a freelance artist and it was his creation that inspired all these smileys and msn emoticons. Earlier smileys were simply made with ASCII characters such as :-) Strangely enough, someone actually has been credited for “inventing” - well first using these characters! Scitt Falham made the original proposal that the now widely used :-) face should “be used for joke markers”.

Many people, while loving the Twitter concept, desire the inclusion of emoticon emoticons and smileys on their Interface, but at the time of writing, Twitter have no intentions of adding them to their service. The reason for this is that they are seen as a method of degrading the quality and look of the overall experience and worries about Emoticon spamming come to fruition. There is no disguising the fact that smileys are big business.
